Lily Mao & The Resonaters Releasing Debut Single

Accompanying Music Video also Premiering Friday, Oct. 28th

BROOKLYN, NY – Just in time for the scariest night of the year, Lily Mao and The Resonaters has announced the band will release a new single, “Wolves,” on Friday, Oct. 28th, just weeks before the mid-term elections.

The Brooklyn-based indie rockers will also release a frolicsome new video for the single, which was directed by Shea Vaughan-Gabor (“People React to being Called Beautiful,” “Social Media”) and filmed on location at Coney Island, N.Y.

Both will leave music fans howling for more.

Blending the best of ‘90s-grunge with a nip of pop and a lick of punk akin to Illuminati Hotties, Snail Mail and Julien Baker, “Wolves” questions what it means to live in a society overrun by disinformation and addresses the country’s current political polarization. With a biting sense of humor, the catchy melody and accompanying video also depict how capitalism is a pillar of many human rights issues intertwined with white supremacy, misogyny and homophobia as told through crunchy guitar rhythms, visceral drums and clever songwriting.

“Wolves” will be available to stream on all music platforms beginning Friday (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, deezer and Google Play).

“Writing this song in 2016 was a way of processing my own personal grief towards the presidential election, along with the inevitable displays of hatred and abuse that ensued by those in power,” said Lily Mao, the group’s lead vocalist, lyricist and guitarist.

“Wolves” marks the band’s debut on A Diamond Heart Production, a Brooklyn-based artist development label, recording, music and publishing company created by singer, songwriter and record producer Vanessa Silberman.  A six-song EP called “Human Being Animal” is set to drop in February 2023.

Formed back in 2018, the band is made up of Lily Mao, lead vocalist, lyricist and guitarist; Nate Jasensky, guitarist and producer; and Gabby Borges on drums. Bassist Tui Jordan also sat in on the new recording.

Lily Mao and The Resonaters is known for the band’s original and exciting new sound, which incorporates influences of punk, glam, grunge rock, ’80s new wave and ’90s pop. Previous releases include “Seasick on the Subway,” nominated for a 2021 Wavy Award for Song of the Year, and their Debut Album “Run To Madness,” released independently in 2018. The group signed with A Diamond Heart Production in 2021.

“Whenever I hear an artist tell me their goal and it’s truly an inspiring message from the heart and a cause to help people, I can’t wait to support them to get to the next level,” said Silberman. “Lily Mao and The Resonaters certainly offer something really special and I’m excited to see them grow.”

Upcoming live shows include:

  • “Wolves” release celebration, Nov. 4, Rubulad, 338 Flushing Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y. Advance tickets available here
  • “Human Being Animal” album release party, Feb. 10, 2023, The Sultan Room, 234 Starr St, Brooklyn, N.Y., with special guest Jill Sobule, American singer-songwriter best known for the single “I Kissed a Girl,” and “Supermodel” from the Clueless soundtrack.
